What No One Told You About Insulin Resistance and Weight Gain

You’ve been eating less. Maybe even cutting carbs. You’re working out. You’re trying. And somehow the scale still won’t move.

What if this has nothing to do with how hard you're trying and everything to do with how your body is responding?

Let’s talk about insulin resistance.

Insulin is the hormone that helps move glucose out of your blood and into your cells. It’s supposed to rise when you eat and drop once the job is done. But when your body stops responding to insulin efficiently, your pancreas makes more of it to compensate. That’s insulin resistance.

And here’s what matters. Elevated insulin makes fat loss harder. Especially around your belly and midsection.

You might feel:

  • Constantly hungry or never satisfied

  • Like carbs hit you harder than they used to

  • Energy crashes after meals

  • Brain fog

  • Cravings you can’t explain

  • Weight gain, even on fewer calories

Insulin resistance doesn’t mean you’re doing something wrong. It means your cells aren’t listening the way they used to. And it can build up slowly, especially during perimenopause or under chronic stress.

The good news is that insulin resistance is reversible.

What helps:

  • Balanced meals with protein, fat, and fiber

  • Walking or light movement after eating

  • Eating earlier in the day

  • Strength training

  • Quality sleep

  • Managing stress

  • Tools like berberine or peptides when appropriate

If this sounds familiar, there’s a better way forward. You don’t need to guess. You don’t need to go more extreme. You need to know what your body is actually responding to.

We cover all of this in consults at Lifefire and inside my programs. If insulin resistance is part of your story, we can do something about it.
