Why Your Metabolism Isn’t Budging (Even If You’re Doing Everything Right)

You’re eating better. You’re moving more. You’re drinking the damn water. Maybe you even cut out sugar, or dairy, or joy. And still, nothing.

Sound familiar? Yup. I see it all the time.

This is the part no one explains well. Your metabolism is not just a calculator for calories in and out. It’s a full-on communication network. It pays attention to what you eat, when you eat, how much sleep you get, how stressed you are, how much light you see in the morning, and whether your nervous system feels safe or like it’s about to be chased by a bear.

When the signals are chaotic, your body does exactly what it’s designed to do: it protects you.

Skipping meals? That’s scarcity mode.

Sleeping like trash? Hormones and blood sugar go off the rails.

Running on stress? Your system stays locked in survival.

Working out hard while you’re exhausted? Your body shuts down to conserve energy.

It doesn’t matter how many “right” things you’re doing if your body is interpreting them as a threat.

That’s why so many people get stuck. Not because they’re doing too little, but because their body is getting mixed signals and doing what it thinks is best. Unfortunately, that usually involves hanging onto fat, tanking energy, and keeping you tired and confused.

Getting unstuck is not about pushing harder. It’s about sending clearer signals. And no, they don’t have to be perfect. They just have to be consistent enough that your body starts to trust you again.
